An Animated Short Illustration By Pier Paolo – Cinematics
Animation is the new fad, just like skinheads are the new dudes in town. Moving pictures may have captured everyone’s attention, but here is animation with a whole new twist to it. Pier Paolo created this animation using characters rendered in flat design to bring a new meaning to this evolving concept of Apple-inspired design.

Pier’s Newest Project
Hailing from Florianopolis in the Southern part of Brazil, Pier Paolo is a freelance design and animation specialist. His work has been published for everyone to see on his profile on the Behance site. Cinematics is his latest project and offers one of the most superb short animation films you’ll ever see.
How It Was Made
Using handheld illustration as well as techniques of animation and design, Pier Paolo developed this short clip by collaborating with Marcelo Baldin for the background track. The standard procedure for creating an animated video is by depicting characters with more legs than they should have, simulating movement.
The Characters
Pier’s flick stars some of the most magical characters of cinema in lead roles, such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Tramp from Charlie Chaplin, and even Carl from the movie Up. According to Pier, the animation entails the timeline of films and characters from classic times.
Not Everyone Made It
While the short film seems to have quite a few characters in it, the reality is that many more characters were adorably designed by Pier, but didn’t quite make it into the casting. If you look at each illustration separately, they look fit for being used as an alternate poster for their own movies.
Talent And Handiwork
Pier has designed everything in the animation, ranging from the lettering with a font invented by him, as well as the detailing on every character. Each character even has a back story to it, which you can read here to understand why Pier chose them for the film.
