Bunkie is a factory built house that can be assembled on-site, letting you sleep in it comfortably. It is a sustainable, transformative, pre-furnished structure made with collaborative design effort. The Bunkie home incorporates the beauty and warmth of the perpetual cottage summers.
Dimensions And Area
About 12.5 by 8.5ft wide (3.8 by 2.6m), Bunkie measures about 11 ft (3.4m) in height. Covering an area of 106.25 sq. feet, your little home will come well under the threshold for building without planning permission under the Ontario Building Code.
How The Bunkie Is Built
Precision-cut from a computer numerical control (CNC) router, the wooden frame for Bunkie is then clad with plywood or barn board, or whatever you choose. All parts are manufactured at the factory and can be brought for sight for final assembly.
Multi-Purpose Modes
The Bunkie can serve many purposes with its three major modes – sleep, play and open. It becomes a makeshift dormitory in the sleep mode by flipping down two queen-sized wall-beds, in a sort of bunk-bed arrangement. Concealed in another wall are a folding table and chairs which can be pulled out in the play mode. The open mode lets you use the open space for whatever you desire – yoga, meditation or reading etc.
A Glass-House?
Bunkie does resemble a glasshouse because of front and back faces that are made of glass. Making for the perfect backyard home, the glass allows you to see through to the beautiful view around you.
Makers And Launch
Buhler and Bare are the creators of Bunkie, and plan to release it by early 2015. The costs are not known, but it has been said that the home will be available in cheaper versions as well.
