Barilla Pasta CEO’s interview with Radio 24 has been taking the Internet by storm. Lesbian and Gay Rights supporters have called a boycott of the brand and the company may have found itself in a public relations nightmare.

Since the highly anti-gay remarks on September 25th, memes and advertisements directly targeted towards the brand have been popping up.

Barilla competitors Buitoni and Bertolli, released amusingly pro-gay ads on their Facebook pages. Smart move? We think so.

Although this is a setback, recent history indicates that this may be a hole from which they can dig themselves out. Chick-fil-A’s, the global fast-food chicken chain, public perception dropped significantly after its president Dan Cathy told Baptist Press that the company is supportive only of the biblical definition of the family unit. Even after the 2012 statement, sales soared by 12% pushing their value over $4.5 billion.

As the business adage goes: All PR is good PR. Do you think that this move will harm Barilla Pasta significantly?
