Cardboard: virtual reality on your smartphone
Among the more interesting “products” introduced at last month’s was Google Cardboard, a do-it-yourself virtual reality kit. Google with Cardboard allows anyone to experience virtual reality in a fun and cheap way.
How? Transforming your smartphone into a basic VR headset. Cardboard works in a similar way to an Oculus Rift. It’s made from unexpensive materials: a pre-cut cardboard folded around 1.5 millimetres thick, velcro strips, a magnet, an elastic band and two 45-millimeter focal distance lenses…that’s all! The headset is designed to work with most Android phones.
