Ford To Reveal The C-MAX Solar Energi Car At CES 2014
Ready to make its debut at CES 2014, Ford has announced its latest concept: the C-MAX Solar Energi. Just like the name suggests, the C-MAX is a plug-in electric car that features highly efficient X21 solar cells located on the roof. The C-MAX also includes a solar concentrator and sun-tracking technology that allow for greater electricity generation. This unique technology works by tracking the sun as it moves, while drawing enough power from it to charge the battery for 4 hours.
The C-Max works exactly the same as its conventional brother, the C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid, with the addition of renewable power that is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by four metric tons. Data from Ford also suggests that the sun could power up to 75% of all trips made by an average driver in a solar-hybrid vehicle. Amazing!
Other specifications of the Ford C-MAX Solar Energi:
- Solar cells take up 1.5 square meters
- Power capacity of 300-350 watts for solar cells
- EPA-estimated 108 city/92 highway/100 combined MPGe
