Game of Thrones Season 4 Viewed as a Card Game

Hy there! I’m an Italian freelance illustrator with a strong passion for tv shows, in particular for Game of Thrones, which is my favorite one. I spent hours watching and re-watching episode after episode of this serie, since one day I decided to combine my passion for drawing and the one for the serie, so I’d like to show you what I did! Well, it’s obvious to say that I can’t wait for the upcoming Game of Thrones Season 4.
The style I used for drawing the cards stays in the middle between realistic and the graphic art and I got the inspiration from Alfons Mucha’s art. What’s the best way to draw and interpret the multitude of characters who fight to conquer the throne? The answer for me was clear: a card deck.

The line between the game and the serie is very thin, thanks to Game of Thrones’ story, that is very adaptable.
The story is about 4 families that I immediately decided to transform in the four groups of the cards, while Kings, Queens, Knaves and Aces are different characters of the serie that I chose depending on their roles in the story. Same thing for the Joker, that obviously had to be the Queen of Dragons….actually, it’s a lot easier to win if you hold a dragon..!
I also added a special card that, guess who represents?
