The Plot
Loving Vincent attempts to unravel the mystery behind the controversial demise of universally acclaimed painter, Vincent Van Gogh, through his paintings and the characters in them. It is an investigation per se, but one that will blow your mind when you witness his intense artwork coming vibrantly to life.
Vincent’s last letter reads, “Well, the truth is, we cannot speak other than by our paintings”, and highly influences the plot. His 800 letters guide us towards all the people in his life, as they are interviewed. Their elaborations give us a deeper insight into his emotional well-being, or the lack of it.
Why It’s Impressive
This sensual media creation narrates the entire story visually with his world-renowned works of art. How? By using the oil-paint-on-canvas animation technique.
Although every movie is a series of images, this one is unique because the images continuously transiting are actual paintings by Van Gogh. This is called stop-motion paintings and it will leave you spellbound.
56,800 Paintings?!
Yes! The film will be developed by putting together 56,800 painting created by 40 artists worldwide.
The production team devised PAWS (Painted Animation Work Stations) to facilitate this process and allow the painting to be a bigger focus for the artists than the animation.
