The high-end design themed (RED) auction at the Sotheby’s auction in New York, saw millions of dollars spent ($13 million) on products designed by the likes of Jony Ive and Marc Newson. But amongst these gorgeous products, the one which caught the attention of everyone was the Mac Pro (RED)!
The special edition of the Mac Pro (RED) was made by John Ive to raise funds for the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria earning a record $977,000 (the estimated value was between $40,000 and $60,000 dollars). The designer-in-chief of Apple, has worked with Marc Newson and Bono of U2 for two years on a project that led to the creation and customization of over 40 different products (including chairs, cars, apple products, cameras and more). The $977,000 dollar winning Mac Pro is the most expensive PC ever sold. The previous record was held by Japan’s Zeus Computers, which was sold at a previous record $750,000.
The auction’s most profitable item was the Leica camera, which was sold at $1,805,000. Next was an unusual aluminum desk, which fetched $1.8 million U.S. dollars. Finally an honourable mention were for a pair of gold plated Apple EarPods that sold at $461,000 dollars.
