Still In Production
The GLA-class by Mercedes-Benz is still in the pre-production stage, and all we have for now is a prototype of what the car is supposed to be like. It will debut in Europe in the upcoming months, and a year after that in the United States. Presently in the final rounds of development testing, there are some interesting facts to be known about the car.
Simple And Flexible Architecture
To be available in two strengths in the U.S., the GLA will have engines that bear striking resemblance to the CLA lineup, according to their spec sheets. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with 208 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque will power the GLA250, while a standard 4MATIC 355-hp 2.0-liter turbo engine will power the GLA45.
Drive And Control
Equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, both models of the Mercedes-Benz GLA will exhibit highly powerful gasoline engines with a selection of ultra-efficient diesels and a six-speed manual.
The sole driveline at launch for the GLAs will be an all-wheel-drive 4MATIC system, but a front-driver is expected follow in some months. Engineered to tackle off-road duties, the GLA will be able to see surfaces worse than a lumpy lawn.
Power And Velocities
Even at highway velocities, the rear wheels of the GLAs can receive power and collaborate with the system. When the stability control system is in its most lenient mode, drivers can hang out the tail a bit too.
Appearance
The GLA has a massive grille with a central star and protruding taillights, giving it an overall sturdy and refined appearance. The taillights act as visual indicators of Mercedes’ aggressive ambitions for the crossover, and the car can handle sinewy roads with ease.
