The first smart home security device for everyone: awesome!

Canary is a single device that contains an HD video camera and multiple sensors that track everything from motion, temperature and air quality to vibration, sound, and activity to help keep you, your family and your home safe.

Controlled entirely from your iPhone or Android device, Canary alerts you when it senses anything out of the ordinary — from sudden temperature changes that can indicate a fire, to the sound and movement that could mean an intrusion. Instantly receive, view and act on the alerts wherever you are. Over time, Canary learns your home’s rhythms to send you smarter alerts. Canary is the smartest way to stay secure.

Canary launches on Indiegogo on Monday after more than a year of design and testing. It will cost $199 and additional service plans will be available for storing HD video long term and other opt-in features.

The hardware certainly sounds impressive but perhaps it will be the software that will really sell Canary. Once plugged in, the device can be set up within 30 seconds. Canary learns your behavior over time and will adjust alerts accordingly, we’re told.

An accompanying app for iOS (Android and iPad support expected later this year) allows you to keep an eye on everything while you are away and will send alerts directly to your phone if an unexpected visitor arrives or the device detects carbon monoxide in the air. As is the new trend, everything is stored in the cloud.
