Vuzix M2000AR; The View With Nokia Holographic Technology
Vuzix, a specialist for the production of virtual reality and augmented reality, has launched a new product; the Vizux M2000AR HMD. The outward appearance is that of a monocle with a camera mounted on the side.
The peculiarity of this product is the integration of waveguide optics technology, which came about through a collaboration with Nokia that was signed in 2011. The body of the viewer is made of reinforced aluminum (this is a “rugged” product) with an attachment suitable for fitting helmets and other similar solutions. This is a product essentially designed primarily for business purposes and not recreational.
What makes this particular product is the display, which has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and is available in both color and monochrome printing. There is an optical light guide, similar to optical fibres, that creates holographical images, The images are then superimposed to the real world, allowing you to create applications for augmented reality. The viewing angle allows you to recreate the same experience you would get watching a 13″ screen at an approximate 60 centimetres.
The brightness of the image is high, so as to allow use of the full light of the sun and the weakest point is its battery life (does not exceed 3 hours of operation). Here are some other interesting specs:
- The monochrome display has 1200 candelas per square meter, while the color stops about 400
- The camera can record video in Full HD (1080p) or VGA at 83fps
- Taking pictures at 5 megapixels
- There is also the head tracking with built-in compass, HDMI connectivity and a USB port
The cost of this fascinating device will be $6000.
