Milan Design Week – Karim Rashid In Da House
CULTURAL SHAPER, DESIGNER, cultural engineer, author, KRITIK, DEEJAY, ARTIST, VISIONIST, SKULPTOR PROFESSOR, designpreacher, globalover. This is how Karim Rashid defines himself on and that’s maybe the reason why you have to queue to see the star at one of his appearances at Milan Design Week. The eclettic designer is the attraction at LG Hausys Sparkle Krib (from sparkle, obviously, and crib, a home): a living space presented for the first time in Temporary Museum for New Design at Superstudio Più in Milan.
Rashid arrives in a white-yellow-pink outfit, glasses, rings and white nail polish on his fingers and a beautiful girl with coordinated outfit. He patiently attends photocalls and interviews and shows his new concept of house.
The Sparkle Krib
This surprising 130 sq. meter apartment design was born as a collaboration with Rashid and has HI-MACS, New Generation Acrylic Stone, as protagonist: a solid surface with a flexible structure which is easy to work with and can support the immagination of the most ambitious designers. Even Karim Rashid’s one. The features of thermoformability and translucence of this material seem perfect for creating this future-oriented space in candy pink and key lime, with a glittering effect (2 of the 5 new shades just launched). The space has organic and fluid lines, as if it were moving. The furnishing are simple and essential but they have great personality, thanks to innovative technology and futuristic design.
Karim Rashid also uses part of the remaining range of LG Hausys products, including Deco-Foi, Floors and Automotive Skin.
“I designed the LG Hausys space to bring enjoyment and increase our level of engagement and beauty”, Karim Rashid says. “The holistic approach to the full space show how our lives are elevated when we experience beauty, comfort, luxury, performance, smartness, technology and utility seamless together”.
Karim Rashid Sparkling In Milan
Rashid, born in Cairo, Egypt and raised in Canada, is one of the most prolific designers of his generation. His work is featured in permanent collections and he exhibits art in galleries world wide. He is a frequent guest lecturer at universities and conferences speaking about the importance of design in everyday life. He was also sparkling in Milan for Salone del Mobile, where he had 6 appearances, 2 exhibitions and even one book signing. Maybe it’s usual routine for someone saying that “we make a better world through design”.
