Sources (cited as Venturebeat) tell us that the efficiency of the Google Glass in patrolling operations is currently being determined by the New York Police Department.

It is assumed that the department is engaged in the Glass Explorer program to be able to recieve the glasses costing them $1500 as early access fee. It is clear that Google is not directly affiliated with the police representatives.

When face-recognition is integrated into Google Glass, it will immensely change the whole caliber of interrogations and enquiry. It can also be implemented to record audio conversations on the go. The only drawback is that the Google Glass is rather conspicuous and recognizable and may blow an undercover official’s disguise.
Google Glass Not Yet Available Publicly
Since the product has still not been launched for commercial use, the NYPD is going to simply continue testing for now. In the event that it goes well, more of the devices will be ordered after the release by Google, which is expected to be later this year.
