The Stats

According to statistics, about 1.2 million SUVs were sold by Ford in 2013 alone, and this is remarkable considering that the worldwide SUV market is predicted to sell about 20 million cars every year before 2018 dawns on us.

Specifications And Make

Measuring about 4.8 meters in length, the Edge can be put in the same category as the Volvo XC60 or even the Audi Q5, but only terms of size. The interiors of the Edge tell a whole other story, as it has five seats with generous space.

Engine And Power

The Ford Edge is powered by a single diesel engine, the new DW10 2.0 liter, which is in lieu with the latest standards of Euro-VI emissions. The engine is available in either the 178bhp/295lb ft with a manual gearbox with six speeds and CO2 emissions of 149g/km, or 207bhp/322lb ft with six speed automatic gearbox and CO2 emissions of 159g/km. Both models of the Edge will be equipped with a four-wheel drive.

How The Edge Came About

The Ford Edge is a product of the ‘One Ford’ initiative that was started by outgoing chief executive, Alan Mulally. It was built in Canada and originally intended for sale in North America, but its chances for victory in Europe were a lot better than others. Although the car is similar in its construction to the upcomaing Mondeo as well as the Galaxy or the S-Max, it does include many innovative features of its own.

Innovative Features

The futuristic characteristics of the Edge include a noise-cancelling system, an adaptive steering system that is assisted electronically, as well as a 180-degree camera for alerting about oncoming traffic.
