The New Models
All the new models of MINI as well as BMW to be released in July, that were made in 2012 or later, will be equipped with the MINI Connected or BMW Apps option that will let you monitor your GoPro camera right from your driver’s seat. The iDrive infotainment unit will take care of everything you need for recording purposes.
How It Works
All you have to do is plug your iPhone (as long as it is 4 or up) into the USB port of your MINI or BMW, with the help of the GoPro App. Navigate over to the ConnectedDrive menu on iDrive, and access your Wi-Fi-enabled GoPro camera to control it.
Accompanying GoPro App
Located in the ConnectedDrive system, the GoPro App works with HERO3+ or later versions, letting you choose between preset camera modes. These are available in six options, including Night Driving, Sport Driving Facing Out, Leisure Drive Facing Out, Sport Driving, Drive Camera Facing In, Straight Road Time-lapse and Winding Road Time-lapse.
Functionality And Controls
The app is very similar to the standard GoPro App in functionality, allowing you to start and stop recording whenever you want. Instead of having to deal with it through your iPhone, you can access everything directly from iDrive.
Apart from showing you the video from GoPro, the vital stats of the camera with elapsed recording time, Wi-Fi signal strength and battery life are also displayed on the 10.2 inch in-dash screen.
