This infographic lists out the most popular beaches along Portugal’s coast that have been compiled with a lot of research by the Momondo team. There is helpful information about the wave levels and types, the bottom of the sea, direction of the wind, crowd trends and also important details like the nearest airports, surf schools, best places to stay at and best places to eat.

If You’re Not Too Picky

While some people like to only surf in a certain level or type of wave, there are others who don’t really mind anything as long as it’s “surf-able”. If you fall in that category, then the best places for you to head to would be Sagres, Ericeira or Peniche. Here, you can find wind directions of east as well as west, and crowd trends that simply depend on the beach you head to.

For The Beachbreakers

If you are overly fond of the Beachbreak type of wave, then there are beaches in Portugal that provide just that. This includes the not-so-crowded Praia Do Norte in Nazare, which is 117 km from Lisbon Airport, or the Praia Do Amado in Costa Vicentina which is 111 km from the Faro Airport, or the considerably crowded Praia De Carcavelos in Carcavelos which is only 27 km from Lisbon Airport.

For The Jettybreakers

The Jettybreak wave is commonly found in the Praia Do Cabedelo beach in Figueira da Foz, which has a bottom of sand and is quite crowded. The nearest surf school here is the Figueira Surf Centre, and the nearest airport is Porto, which is 151 km away. Another beach with Jettybreak waves is the Espinho, which is also quite crowded and has a bottom of sand. The nearest surf school to Espinho is SurfJah, and the nearest airport is at Porto, located 33 km away.
