Following suit, here is a more precise version of a 3D pen that is apt for professional users instead of casual doodlers. It is called the Lix 3D Printing Pen and it is pretty much blowing up Kickstarter with its kickass features.
The Pen For Designers
Lix 3D printing pen was developed by UK startup named Lix with designers, architects and fabricators in mind. Its Kickstarter campaign reached the funding goal of £30K within two hours of its launch a few days ago, and now has a staggering £686K for funding.
How It Works
The working of the Lix Pen is almost identical to that of the 3Doodler. It behaves like a handheld extruder that is loaded with a special ABS or PLA filament. To control the rate at which the material is released, you can use the two buttons on its surface. This gives you the ability to draw fast or slow and create lines that distinctly vary in thickness.
Why Lix Pen Is Epic
When you compare the Lix Pen with the 3Doodler, the most obvious difference is that the Lix pen is substantially slimmer than the 3Doodler. This may seem like a very trivial aspect, but the fact that the Lix pen isn’t shaped like an oversized cigar accounts for increased efficiency while using it. Constructed from lightweight aluminum, the Lix pen is sleek and slender.
USB Power
The pen is designed to work with a USB power cord, which means a laptop or portable battery will do for charging as well, instead of the requirement for an outlet. The first production models of the Lix pen are expected to ship as early as September 2014, and will be priced at $135.
