The 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil will witness the implementation of the most sophisticated goal line technology that the world has ever known. It is not just impressive, but also infallibale.
Introducing GoalControl
Developed by Dirk Broichhausen, Managing Director at the German firm, GoalControl, the technology is expected to leave no stones unturned in its performance. In a presentation at the Maracana Stadium in Rio this week, he claimed that GoalControl is not just completely accurate but will also come with a guarantee of zero possibility of manipulation.
How It Works
With the help of encryption functionality, the device transmits more than 4 GB of data with every passing second. The data is collected by a set of 14 cameras that are meticulously positioned to watch both goals like hawks.
Capable of capturing about 500 frames every second, the cameras are equipped with special recognition software that plots the exact position of the ball within 0.5 cm in real-time.
Detecting The Goal
The referee is alerted with a notification as soon as a goal is detected, and this is sent to him through a digital reciever on his wrist that collects an encrypted signal. With so many protestors against the ongoing World Cup in Brazil, it would only make sense that such measures have been put into place to save the games from being disrupted.
How The Impenetrable Nature Comes About
While the technical integrity of the device does deserve a certain amount of credit, the bigger picture here is the general accessibility of the system. Chosen in October 2013 as the official provider for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, GoalControl has been installed and tested in the 12 different venues for the tournament.
