The Lion King Flash Mob Sings

Valerio Spagnuolo

Apr 10, 2014

Imagine you’re on a short flight home, and suddenly a flash mob strikes – singing the harmonious song ‘Circle of Life’, the opening single from The Lion King stage musical. That is what happened to the fellow passengers on board of a Virgin Airlines flight departing from Brisbane, going to Sydney on April Fools’ Day. Watch how it went down onboard in the video.

The Story Behind The Mob

Mobs usually have grim stories behind their forming, but not this one – it was the joyful cast of The Lion King stage musical. This is the Sydney Company of stage performers. The crewmembers were in Brisbane that weekend, to announce their upcoming show at the Lyric Theater, scheduled for September 2014. They were on their way back home, Sydney, and they probably thought “why not?” and started singing out.

Are They Any good?

If you saw the video, you would admit that they are pretty damn good. Melodious and catchy, they were rocking the plane, and the two guys at the front were in a trance with each other singing jungle words. If that was not enough, the non-mob passengers praised the performance with claps. This was definitely a great way for the Sydney Company to give everyone a sneak peek into their talent.

What Do You Do With A Singing Mob?

Well, if you’re not part of it, then just listen and enjoy it. Or, join in singing if you know the lyrics. It must have been surprising to encounter such a thing in the constricted environment of an airplane. Since it was April Fools’ Day, they might have been alert all day, but there is no way they saw this coming.
