Misfit’s Shine wearable activity tracker to hit Apple Stores
Former Apple CEO John Sculley‘s company Misift has come up with its first product called Shine, a physical activity tracker that will be up for sale at $99.95 in Apple Stores this week. It is a monitor that may be worn on the body and will give vital signs at the drop of a hat. Misfit Wearables’ Indiegogo campaign spanned from November 2012 to January and raised $846,675, surpassing its $100,000 goal. You can also buy it from online.
Misfit’s Shine is an all-metal activity tracker that can be synced with a smartphone just by placing it on the phone’s screen. The device lets you know how active you are every day, and allows you to set goals to become more active. To see how active you’ve been throughout the day, tap the Shine and a halo of lights shines through invisible micro-holes, laser drilled into the metal casing, showing your activity level for the day. The device can be worn as a clasp, on a sports band around your wrist, or like a necklace on a chain.
It comes as no great surprise the company is releasing their device in Apple Stores, as Apple has always had a bit of an influence on the fledgling firm. Misfit was founded o the day of Steve Jobs’ passing, (the name “Misfit” is a tribute to Jobs and Apple’s “Think Different” ads.), and one of the company’s co-founders is former Apple CEO John Sculley.
