Taking you back and forth between different lapses of time, the film is backed by a slightly confusing narrative.
The Preface To The Battle
The movie opens at a timeframe 10 years before the battle depicted in the original 300 movie that came out in 2007. The first scene shows Themistocles, a Greek soldier, killing the Persian King Darius. This compels young Xerses to set out on the path to seek revenge for the murder, unfurling a rather interesting plot.
The Aftermath
The parts that you didn’t see in the first installment are all here. The Persian army headed by King Xerxes continues to threaten Greece, as King Leonidas and his troops are seen murdered at Thermopylae. In the aftermath of the battle, the Perisan army is shown to have exceptional ground and sea force.
The Course Of The Movie
Perpetually shifting between different events, the film portrays resolutions that are reached before the reason for the conflict is even explained. The characters of the movie do not get a standalone introduction, but are instead made known in the past by characters of the future, who are subsequently introduced at a premature time.
Unique Storytelling Method
The lack of a conventional linear story to the film is a definite win for the movie, making it that much more captivating. Towards the end, the plot seems to converge into a single straightforward story, solving all the mysteries it left along the way.
Bloody Moments
Being an action flick, the movie has tons of bloody moments, and these have been exaggerated with slow-motion effects, capturing the spray of every drop of blood. Be prepared to watch a gory depiction of men being butchered and body parts flying around in the midst of an ongoing war.
