Star Wars Characters Get Flat Design-ed
Star Wars started a craze around the world that is still very much alive. So many versions of the Star Wars characters have been created, but apparently there was still one stone left unturned.

Thanks to Portuguese designer, Filipe Carvalho, that dimension has also been explored. Which dimension, you ask? The illustration of Star Wars characters in the ‘flat design’ concept that was popularized by Apple.
Paying A Tribute
Carvalho’s creation pays tribute to one of the most well-known film franchises in the history of cinema – the Star Wars. The visuals offer a minimalist look at what these pop-cultural Star Wars characters would look like if they were made into flat-designed icons.
Minimal Illustrations
The series of images include characters like Yoda, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Princess Leia among many others. A copywriter by profession, Carvalho wanted to express his love for the Star Wars saga with these illustrations.
Flat Design
As flat design is increasingly becoming the next big thing in digital media today, it only makes sense to render the favorite characters of the world in this design. The design system uses a very simplistic visual approach, and that’s why Carvalho was able to implement it even though he’s not a professional art director. The icons look like they are two dimensional and cut out of paper, with strong light sources casting sharp shadows.
Long Shadow
Carvalho went one step ahead with his design for these icons by incorporating long shadows for each of the characters as well. From his research, nothing of this nature has ever been created before, so why not be the first?
Reworking Star Wars Yet Again
It may be a surprise to some people that the creation of Star Wars in flat design did not exist up to this point. And that’s justified because the franchise has gained so much popularity since its introduction that it has been reworked into anything you can possibly imagine.
