Woden Huts Display On Finish Pavilion 2014 Venice
The 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale took place from 7th June to 23 November 2014 at the Giardini and at Arsenale. The curator is one of the most important firms of architecture: Rem Koolhaas. The theme is “Fundamentals”.
After many years during wich architects and contemporary production have been the principal actors now Biennale will focus the attention on two themes:
- the elements wich constitute architecture (the door, the floor, the man shelter,…)
- the evolution and the consequences of national architectures in the last 100 years
About the first theme very representating is the exhibition outside the Finnish Pavilion, designed by Alvar Aalto in 1956. Architect Ansii Lassila has installed two huts. The challenge is to realize a primitive wooden shelter using traditional finnish materials and tecniques and later on try to obtain the same result but in China. Different culture, different materials, different way of thinking.
The finnish hut was built from spurce by a local carpenter while the chinese one is made from bamboo. The first is composed by horizontal elements and has a squared shape while in the second bamboo are arranged vertically obtaining a circular plan. The two huts was first presented in Shenzen during the Shenzen & Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/ Architecture, before being transported in Venice.
