Groupon’s Gnome Helps The iPad Take Over Cash Registers
As new technology gadgets of 2014 seem to be taking over every aspect of the current world we live in, cash registers are no exception. Ever since mobile payment systems like Square and Paypal transformed checkout lanes to a great degree, there is little room for the cash register. Making it easier for merchants to accept payments using minimal hardware, Groupon introduced its new system called the Gnome.

Meet The Gnome
Gnome is capable of turning pretty much any iPad into a cash register, accepting vouchers from Groupon via Bluetooth. A point-of-sale system of sorts, Gnome lets merchants accept cash, debit, and credit payments.
The Software
The Gnome software gives merchants the functionality to track profits as well as the number of Groupon vouchers used and whether or not those bargain hunters return to the store.
By recording the customer’s purchase history, Gnome lets merchants access the information to send targeted promotions to people. This will help to turn one-time visitors into return customers.
The Payment System
An assumed feature in the Gnome is that all merchants who offer Groupon vouchers use the Gnome payment system, which costs cost businesses $10 a month and 1.8 percent per purchase to process the transaction. For every MasterCard and Visa transaction, an additional 15 cents are charged to the company.
Appeal To Users
Since Gnome is such an essential aspect of offering promotions, Groupon contends that all of its partners purchase it. The reason why Gnome is appealing to customers and vendors alike is because it has the ability to redeem Groupon voucher with just a Bluetooth scan, eliminating the need to print out an actual coupon.
New Technology
In case your Bluetooth scan doesn’t work, Gnome has a backup plan in the form of new technology that searches for deals tagged with the customer’s name, voucher number or Groupon barcode. Either way, the technology provides a hassle-free solution that will eradicate long checkout lines altogether.
